Course Overrides

Overrides are a kinesthesia/staff solution that allows a student to past-pass a registration add together error when using the Penguin Portal registration system.

General Guidelines

Faculty/staff who have been granted advisement rights, may enter student overrides in internet native banner (SFASRPO). In SFASRPO, a permit/override may exist enter under a specific student record by CRN and/or Bailiwick/Course Number.  The Role of the Registrar is aware that placing overrides tin be cumbersome and confusing for anyone advising students.  Beneath is a listing of the available overrides, the banner codes and additional information that will help kinesthesia and staff use them accurately.

Capacity (7CAPACITY)

  • Student Registration Error Bulletin:  Closed Section CRN 12345 BIOL 1234
  • This override is CRN specific.  It should only exist used in farthermost circumstances as the use of this override trumps the course wait list process.
  • Who tin resolve this error?  Grade Department


Grade (3CLASS)

  • Student Registration Error Message:  Class Restriction.
  • The term "class" refers to a student'due south grade rank (i.east., sophomore).  This override is CRN specific; when y'all place the permit on SFASRPO, you must enter the CRN.

College (5COLLEGE)

  • ​Student Registration Error Message:  College Restriction
  • The term "higher" refers to the university's ability to restric a section or entire course to simply those with majors inside the bookish college.  This override is CRN specific, unless every section of the course is reserved for a specific academic college.
  • Who tin resolve this error?  Course Section


Co-Requisite (8CO-REQ)

  • Educatee Registration Fault Bulletin:  Corequisite (BIOL 1234L) required
  • Some courses have an additional course that must exist taken during the aforementioned semester unless the department is able to waive the corequisite requirement.  This override is CRN specific; when you lot place the permit on SFASRPO, you lot must enter the CRN.
  • Who tin resolve this error?  Course Department or Academic Advisor


Bailiwick (FOS)

  • Student Registration Mistake Message:  Field of study Restriction CRN 12345 BIOL 1234
  • The term "field of written report" refers to a track within the major (i.e., sports broadcasting within telecommunication). This override is CRN specific, unless every section of a grade is reserved for a specific bailiwick.
  • Who can resolve this error?  Course Department


Pre-Requisite  (2PRE-REQ)

  • Student Registration Error Message:  Prerequisite or test score fault.
  • This override is not CRN specific so that a a student can select whatsoever department of the course.
  • Who can resolve this mistake?  Course Department


Programme (4PROGRAM)

  • Student Registration Error Bulletin:  Programme Restriction.
  • The term "plan" refers to the student's academic major (i.e., nursing).  This override is CRN specific, unless every section of the class is reserved for a specific program.
  • Who can resolve this mistake?  Class Section


Special Blessing (1SP APPRVL)

  • Pupil Registration Fault Message:  Special Blessing Required.
  • If a course is marked for special blessing, every student will need this override to be able to self-register for the course.  This override is as well CRN specific; when yous identify the permit on SFASRPO, yous must enter the CRN.
  • Who can resolve this error?  Course Section


Pupil Attribute (10ATTRIB)

  • ​Educatee Registration Error Message:  Student Aspect Brake.
  • The term "attribute" refers to a code used for specific populations of students (i.e., veterans).  This override is CRN specific, unless every section of a class is reserved for a specific attribute.
  • Who can resolve this fault?  Class Department


Time Conflict (11TIME)

  • Student Registration Error Bulletin:  Time Conflict with CRN 12345 BIOL 1234 and CRN  15678 CHEM 1234
  • While students are permitted to take classes that conflict equally it is the student's responsibility to brand arrangements with instructors, the system is set to prevent a pupil from completing this type of registration without intervention.  This override is CRN specific.
  • Who can resolve this mistake?  Grade Department, Academic Advisor, or Educatee One Cease
